Biography
Memphis, Tennessee was the place of Freeman’s birth on June 1, 1937. Her parents were Mamie Edna (1912–2000), a teacher, and Morgan Porterfield Freeman (July 6, 1915 – April 27, 1961), a barber who passed away from cirrhosis in 1961. He was raised by three older siblings.
His love for movies and acting was evident from a young age. He liked to save money to watch movies and had a strong admiration for actors such as Gary Cooper and Sidney Poitier. During school, he played various roles in various dramas. While attending Broad Street High School in Mississippi, he won a drama competition that was state-wide when he was 12. In 1955, he graduated from high school.

From October 22, 1967 to November 18, 1979, Freeman was in a marriage with Jeanette Adair Bradshaw.In 1984, Myrna Colley-Lee was his wife, and they got divorced in September 2010. Alfonso, Deena, Morgana, and Saifoulaye are the names of his four children.
Career
He joined the ‘U.S. Air Force,’ hoping to be a fighter pilot. However, he was confined to the position of mechanic and radar technician. In 1959, he resigned from his military service after realizing that this was not what he wanted to do. In the early 1960s, he relocated to Los Angeles and took acting and dancing classes at the Pasadena Playhouse. He participated in the Opera Ring musical theater group during the mid-1960s and was part of the touring company version of ‘The Royal Hunt of the Sun.’
In 1967, he made his off-Broadway debut. The result of this was his Broadway debut in 1968 with an all-black version of ‘Hello Dolly!’ that also featured Pearl Bailey. In 1971, he started appearing on the children’s television program ‘The Electric Company’, an educational program designed to teach children how to read. The show ran for six seasons until 1977. The 1980s marked the beginning of his film career. In the beginning, he would play a small role in movies like ‘Brubaker’ (1980), ‘Eyewitness’ (1981), ‘Harry & Son’ (1984) and ‘Marie’ (1985).
In 1987, he received his first big break by portraying the violent pimp ‘Fast Black’ in ‘Street Smart’. He received positive reviews for the role and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. In 1989, he played the lead role in ‘Driving Miss Daisy,’ a comedy drama film that was based on the same name play. The performance of Freeman in portraying ‘Hoke Colburn’ was highly praised.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994) is the most notable among them, as it was based on Stephen King’s novella ‘Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption’. Freeman continued to appear in projects like ‘Now You See Me’ (2013) and ‘Now You See Me 2’ (2016). He played the role of ‘Vitruvius’ in the 2014 blockbuster film ‘The Lego Movie’. He was featured in movies like ‘Just Getting Started’ (2017), ‘Brian Banks’ (2018), and ‘The Poison Rose’ (2019) in the late 2010s.
