Mixon studied fine arts at the Alabama School of Fine Arts in Birmingham, Alabama, and earned a degree from the Pensacola Private School of Liberal Arts. After obtaining her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the prestigious Carnegie Mellon School of Drama, she did so.
